King Gizzard received a hugely positive reception for its last album I’m In Your Mind Fuzz, which it only released towards the end of last year. The Melbourne event, held at the Corner Hotel from May 2-3, will see King Gizzard perform across all days, including an all-ages slot on Saturday, and have recruited a handful of local acts to join the 20-plus line-up including the Tiny Giants and Sagamore.

To celebrate the launch of Quarters, the band recently announced its own mini-music festival with legs in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth by the name of Gizzfest. “That was a bit of a hindrance to the whole process but we got there in the end.” Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard at Sugar Mountain. “We sort of wanted to see how far we could take a simple idea, and stretch it right out.” “I mean we’ve sort of done long tracks in the past, but these ones are long and simple as well,” he says.

MacKenzie, who credits having a clear, unified vision for each record for keeping the peace between the seven members, says this record’s concept is more vague than its predecessors.
